Hi, my name is Erica Oliger. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart after the recent and unexpected passing of my dad. What started as a simple case of pancreatitis quickly turned into a devastating series of events for our family.
Over the past month, my dad was in and out of hospitals—first for gallbladder issues, then for complications that doctors couldn’t get under control. He spent a week in one hospital and was transferred to another, where we hoped surgery would help. Unfortunately, due to severe swelling, surgery wasn’t possible. After another week in the hospital, he was sent home on medication. Tragically, just days later, he suffered three heart attacks—caused by a lapse in care when his heart medication was stopped for eight days. He was rushed back to the hospital for two more weeks, endured multiple surgeries, and sadly, he didn’t make it.
While my family was focused on keeping my dad comfortable and hopeful, everything else took a back seat. My mom hasn’t been able to work during this time, and the costs of travel, hotels, and food added up fast. My brother, sister, and I have done everything we can financially to support our parents through this, but we’ve reached the end of our resources.
To make things even harder, a recent storm knocked a tree into the house, ripping off the weather head. The power surge destroyed the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and hot water tank—leaving my mom without basic necessities on top of grieving this loss.
I started this GoFundMe to help my mom pick up the pieces. Any amount you’re able to give would mean the world to us. And if you’re not able to donate, we completely understand—times are hard for everyone. Even just sharing this or keeping our family in your prayers would mean so much.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
