Hello, my name is Brittney, and I am 38 yrs old. For the past 26 years, I’ve been living with end-stage renal disease. Since being diagnosed at the age of 12, I’ve faced multiple surgeries, 2 failed kidney transplants, and a lifetime of life-sustaining hemodialysis. Now, I’m embarking on a new chapter, one that brings fresh hope through a clinical trial that could finally help me have a shot at receiving a 3rd kidney transplant.
Due to years of blood transfusions, I’ve developed antibodies that make it incredibly hard to find a matching donor, and only about 0.5% of potential donors are even a match for me. This clinical trial at NYU Langone in New York City is my chance to reduce those antibodies and improve my odds of a successful transplant.
I have been on the kidney transplant waitlist, as well as hemodialysis for the last 20 years. Two decades of hoping for that one chance. This clinical trial isn’t just another treatment, it’s my shot at finally overcoming the barriers that have kept me waiting for so long.
However, this journey may take about two years of treatment, frequent travel, and additional medical procedures that my insurance won’t fully cover.
In addition, part of this trial involves chemotherapy that could affect my fertility, and I’m hoping to also raise funds for egg preservation since this isn’t covered by my insurance.
Your support, whether through donations or just sharing my story, means everything to me. It’s not just about funding a medical procedure, it’s about giving me a fighting chance at a healthier, fuller life. Thank you for being part of my journey.
