Who I Am

My name is Garte Smith. I currently live in the United Kingdom but I was born and raised in Jamaica, where my family still lives.

Where I Am From

I am originally from Jamaica, and the area where many of my relatives live was directly affected by Hurricane Melissa. Their homes and communities suffered significant damage.

My Relationship to the People I Am Raising Funds For

The people I am raising funds for are my immediate family members. This includes my nan, siblings, cousins, and other close relatives who live together in the affected community. Several of them lost their homes or had their houses badly damaged, and their jobs have been disrupted due to the storm.

Why I Created This Fundraiser

After the hurricane, many essential services were cut off. My family does not currently have stable access to electricity, clean water, or income. Until utilities are restored and they are able to return to work, they are struggling to manage basic daily needs.

I created this fundraiser to provide direct support to them during this difficult time and to help them stay stable while they work toward rebuilding.

How the Funds Will Be Used

Every contribution will go directly toward practical and immediate needs such as:

• Food supplies

• Clean drinking water

• Temporary accommodation and shelter

• Hygiene and medical supplies

• Transportation to access essential services

• Support for children and elderly family members

• Other urgent needs that arise during the recovery period

I will provide updates on how the funds are being used so donors can see the impact of their support.

I appreciate the relief efforts being made by the Jamaican government and local organisations, and I am grateful for their work. This fundraiser is simply a way to ensure that my own family can receive immediate help while they wait for full recovery support.
