Hi everyone,

I’m Carmen AKA Carmen La Mejor (CLM), and I’ve been accepted into a 6-month residency at the Saatchi Gallery (!!!!). It still feels surreal to say out loud.

I’m a multi-media, multi-disciplinary artist originally from Venezuela, based in SE London. I tattoo, paint, make piñatas, read tarot, and do SFX makeup. I’ve always made art, but it’s usually had to exist around work and survival.

This residency is a rare and insane opportunity for my practice and career, and I really don’t want to miss any of it.

My work comes from an intuitive, almost subconscious place. I work with dreams, symbols, nature, and spiritual practices, things that don’t always translate into words but feel very clear when I’m creating. Everything I do is connected, all rooted in emotion, transformation, and energy.

During this 6-month residency at Saatchi Gallery, I’ll have a studio space and be working towards an exhibition at the end, while also running community workshops. It’s a huge step for my career and a real chance to move towards making art my full-time life. I want to fully dedicate myself to this time, be in the studio as much as possible, and really develop my work.

I’m raising funds mainly and mostly for materials, so I can experiment freely, with additional support going towards transport, food, and easing my living costs. This will help me stay focused, consistent, and present in the studio without the constant stress of splitting my time and energy.

Every bit of support helps, the more I can raise, the more freedom I’ll have to dedicate myself completely to creating, and if you can’t donate, sharing helps just as much.
