Supporting Mum’s Fight Against Guillain-Barré Syndrome
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Danny and I am fundraising for my mum (Wendy Bailey) as she goes through her recovery from her condition Guillain Barre Syndrome. I will be running Alton Half Marathon on the 17th November to help raise money.
Our family’s world was turned upside down when Mum was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare and debilitating neurological condition. One day she was full of life, enjoying her daily activities, and the next, she was battling against a condition that left her body paralyzed and her spirit shaken. 12 weeks in critical care on a life support machine with having a tracheostomy, being moved into a ward for 4 months and then later being moved into a specialist neurological rehab centre for a further 4 months, the hospital not being able to help mum any further
Guillain-Barré Syndrome is a cruel and unpredictable illness where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves, leading to muscle weakness, loss of sensation, and sometimes complete paralysis. The road to recovery is long and uncertain, filled with countless hospital visits, intensive physiotherapy sessions, and an overwhelming emotional toll.
Despite the challenges, Mum has shown incredible strength and resilience. Every day is a new battle, but she faces it with a determination that inspires everyone around her. However, the financial burden has been immense. The costs of ongoing medical care, specialized treatments, mobility aids, and home modifications have quickly added up, making it difficult for our family to cope alone. The funds will go towards, hand specialised, neurological specialist, private physiotherapy, disability gym, movement therapy etc. As times are challenging, mum currently has no working hands and mobility issues meaning she needs assistance for everyday day to day life.
That’s why we’ve created this fundraising page. We are reaching out to our friends, family, and the broader community to ask for your support in helping Mum get the care she needs to recover and regain her independence. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to our goal. Your contribution will go directly towards funding Mum’s treatment and recovery, giving her the best possible chance at a full recovery.
We know that times are tough for everyone, but even if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with your network can make a huge difference. Raising awareness about Guillain-Barré Syndrome and the challenges it brings can help not only our family but others who may be going through similar struggles.
Mum has always been the one to lend a helping hand to others, and now we have the chance to do the same for her. We believe in her strength, and with your support, we can help her overcome this battle. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this difficult time.
Let’s come together and give Mum the hope and resources she needs to fight Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Together, we can make a difference.
