To our family, friends, and community,
Several months ago, our family was tested in a way we never could have anticipated. By the decree of Allah, our mother, Desiree, suffered a sudden and severe brain bleed, followed by a major stroke. The stroke left her in a coma, dependent on a breathing tube and life-support measures. During this critical period, she underwent three emergency brain surgeries.
She spent three months in the hospital, fighting for her life while our family waited, prayed, and placed our trust in Allah day after day.
“Qadar Allah wa mā shā’a fa‘al.”
Allah has decreed, and what He willed has come to pass.
By the mercy of Allah, she survived. Yet the effects of this ordeal have been profound and life changing.
The woman who once held our home together, who cared for others before herself, is now unable to care for herself. She requires constant medical supervision, ongoing rehabilitation, and daily assistance with even the most basic tasks.
A Life of Service and Character
Our mother’s life has always been defined by responsibility, sacrifice, and care for others.
She raised seven children while also working to support her family. She was known for her generosity, her kindness, and her good character (akhlaq). She gave charity, helped those in need, and consistently showed concern for the well-being of others.
Islam teaches us the unmatched status of the mother, and that serving her is among the greatest acts of worship. Our mother spent her life serving others. Now, by the decree of Allah, she is the one in need of care and it is our responsibility to serve her with dignity and love.
Why We Are Asking for Help
We are doing everything within our ability to provide her with proper care. However, the cost of prolonged hospitalization, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and in-home assistance is significant.
While we take the necessary means, our reliance (tawakkul) is entirely upon Allah. This fundraiser is a means to help us provide our mother with the care, comfort, and support she needs. All contributions will go directly toward her medical expenses, rehabilitation services, any medical equipment, transport vehicle for easy transport and in-home care.
How You Can Support
We humbly ask for your support in two ways:
- Give in Charity (Ṣadaqah): Any amount given with sincerity helps ease this hardship. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught that charity does not decrease wealth and that relieving another’s difficulty is beloved to Allah.
- Make Du‘ā’: Please ask Allah to grant our mother complete shifā’, to restore her strength, and to ease her suffering. We also ask you to make du‘ā’ for our family to grant us patience, firmness, and reward in caring for her.
