If you know Mary, you know she would never ask for help. So I’m asking for her.

Mary is facing multiple hospital bills and lost income from time away from work—all while already navigating life as a single mom. To make things even harder, her beloved “art car” now needs a major transmission repair. And while a few bills have already come in we know that there are a lot more to come and want to make sure that she has enough to cover them as well as repair her car.

"Miss Mary" is an art teacher at Satori Elementary School and also works with the Galveston Arts Center. She’s a single mom and one of the most genuine, vibrant, and thoughtful people in our community.

She doesn’t just teach art—she helps kids love it, feel it, and express who they are through it.

Miss Mary has a love of art, glitter, googly eyes and getting creative. In the same way that Mary teaches art through creative, hands-on fun she let her students cover her car— in color and creativity... you may have seen it around town!

She has a rare ability to truly see children. She notices who needs extra support, adapts without being asked, and creates a space where every child feels safe, understood, and inspired. She gives everything to others—and always puts herself last.

And her care doesn’t stop at the classroom—she has spent time delivering food plates on Thanksgiving, checking on elderly members of the community, and showing up in countless quiet ways to serve others.

Over the past month, Mary has been quietly dealing with a kidney infection she thought had resolved. Even while not feeling well, she continued to show up for her students and community.

On April 23rd, she went to the emergency room, leading to significant medical care and expenses.

This past weekend, she poured herself into the Satori school fundraiser—caring for kids and making sure everyone else was okay. That night, she ended up back in the emergency room overnight with a continued infection and severe dehydration.

Mary has spent years showing up for our children and this community with her whole heart.

Now she needs us.

If you’re able, please consider donating to help with medical expenses, lost income, vehicle repairs and essential needs- any amount helps a great deal and is greatly appreciated!

If you can’t donate, sharing this means just as much.

She would never ask for this—but those of us who know her know how deeply she deserves our support.

With gratitude - erin
