Hi everyone,
My Name is Emily, I am reaching out as friend, as a neighbour, and as someone who care deeply about Mike and Debbie Hogan.
Recently, Mike, at the age of only 65 received devastating news — he has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of terminal brain cancer (Glioblastoma (GBM), also known as Grade IV Astrocytoma). Despite undergoing major surgery to remove a large portion of the tumour, the cancer is not curable. His current treatment plan includes 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy, with an expected prognosis of approximately eight months.
For anyone who knows Mike and Debbie, you know the kind of people they are. They are truly salt-of-the-earth, the kind of neighbours and friends everyone hopes to have. They are kind, trustworthy, generous, and deeply caring toward people, animals, and the world around them.
Deb has her own garden and is always sharing fresh produce, lovingly pickled or canned goods, and baked treats made from the heart. Mike is the first person to check on you during a power outage, to make sure your driveway gets plowed, or that you’ve got help getting your winter wood in. They are the kind of people who quietly show up, without ever expecting anything in return.
I have personally entrusted them with my home and my dog while I’ve been away, a reflection of the trust and care they extend to everyone around them. Mike and Debbie have given so much of themselves to others over the years, and now they are facing something no one should have to face alone.
Mike and Debbie are now travelling back and forth to Gatineau for treatment. During this time, they are staying in very basic accommodations provided through the cancer society, without many comforts, limited resources, and relying on grocery deliveries to cook their own meals while juggling hospital appointments.
Alongside the emotional weight of this diagnosis, they are facing significant financial strain, including travel costs, food, medical-related expenses, time away from home, and the countless unexpected costs that come with cancer treatment.
This fundraiser is meant to help ease some of those burdens so Mike and Debbie can focus on what matters most right now: treatment, comfort, time together, and dignity during an incredibly difficult chapter of life.
Funds raised will go toward:
-Travel and transportation to and from treatment
-Groceries and meals during hospital stays
-Comfort items and basic living expenses
-Loss of income and unforeseen medical-related costs
Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help, and if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page means just as much.
Thank you for surrounding Mike and Debbie with compassion, generosity, and love during this time of year. Your donation MATTERS!
