We lost our dear friend Nick Alvernaz in a tragic kayaking accident on March 14. Although Nick was usually soft spoken and very polite, his voice on issues he cared about would crash like thunder. Fervently opposed to the mistreatment of historically marginalized people, his voice carried weight with those who knew him. I don’t know a single other person who went to as many protests, engaged in as many confrontations online or in person, or simply thought critically about the ongoing crises at home and abroad. In the wake of Nicks passing, we wanted to use his memory to raise money for an issue he cared about. Migrant Justice is an organization doing the work Nick cared so much about and we have decided to set up this go fund me in his honor.
