Supporting Michelle Rutherford and Her Family
Michelle Rutherford has spent her life caring for others. As a dedicated MICU nurse, she mentored countless nurses, helping them become strong, compassionate clinicians in one of the most demanding environments in healthcare.
Earlier this year, Michelle was diagnosed with lung cancer that later spread. She is now receiving hospice care and has faced this journey with the same grit, humor, and strength that defined her career and her friendships.
Michelle was known by her colleagues for the pride she took in patient care. She made sure the “feng shui” was right, that patients were clean, bathed, and treated with dignity—especially in their final moments. She believed deeply that every patient deserved to be cared for respectfully, and she carried that responsibility personally.
Michelle also brought people together. She was the ringleader behind MICU Sunday Night Dinner, organizing themes and meals so nurses working some of the hardest shifts could sit, eat, and feel like a family. She took this on herself and carried it forward year after year, creating a sense of family that defined the unit.
Michelle is a devoted mother to her two adult children, Rob and Chelsea, and she is deeply loved by her family, including her mother and brothers.
This fund is being organized by Michelle’s MICU family to help support Michelle and ease the financial burden on her family during this incredibly difficult time.
Donations will help cover:
Medical bills and ongoing care
Hospice-related expenses
Funeral and memorial costs
End-of-life and transitional family expenses
Our hope is to remove as much financial stress as possible so Michelle and her family can focus on being together.
Michelle’s impact as a nurse, mentor, and friend is immeasurable. She gave so much of herself to others, and this is an opportunity for those whose lives she touched to give back in support and gratitude.
Thank you for any support—whether through a donation, sharing this page, or keeping Michelle and her family in your thoughts.
