On January 13, our brother Michael suffered a sudden, ruptured brain aneurysm and has been in the ICU since. The past few weeks have been incredibly hard for Michael, our family, and the many people in his life who love him. There have been a lot of ups and downs, and we’re taking everything one day at a time.
Michael is 28 years old. He’s a fighter in every sense of the word. He’s strong-willed, deeply loyal, incredibly kind, and yes, a little stubborn. He has one of the most caring hearts we know, especially when it comes to people and animals who need protection. No matter how many times life knocks him down, he keeps getting back up and trying again.

Right now, Michael is still in critical care. He has been through a lot already, including endovascular coiling, a craniotomy, multiple brain drains, a tracheostomy, and treatment for a blood clot. His next procedure will be the placement of a permanent shunt, which he will need long-term.
He is now out of his coma and has been opening his eyes. There’s a chance that he is seeing us, but the doctors need more time to understand how much healing is possible and what the long-term impact will be. His recovery is still uncertain, and this is going to be a long and unpredictable road. What we do know is that Michael’s body is strong, and he is worth continuing treatment for.
This was a sudden and devastating medical event that no one could have predicted. Right now, our focus is simply on surrounding Michael with as much love, strength, support, and positive energy as possible.

We are so thankful for the ICU team at Windsor Regional Hospital, who have shown Michael so much care and compassion. We are also incredibly grateful to everyone who has already supported us over the past few weeks. The meals, gift cards, messages, prayers, check-ins, and small acts of kindness have meant more than we can ever fully express. They’ve helped carry us through some very heavy days.
We’ll share updates here when we have meaningful news and when we’re able, so we can stay focused on being present with Michael and supporting each other.

As we continue to take things day by day, we’re setting up this fundraiser to help support Michael and our family as the next steps become clearer.
The funds will be managed by our family and used for medical and recovery-related expenses, hospital transportation, parking and meals during long hospital stays, and medical equipment, home adaptations, or caregiving support if recovery allows. Because Michael’s situation is still evolving, this fund gives us the flexibility to respond to whatever comes next and to keep our energy where it belongs, on Michael.
There is absolutely no pressure to donate. Even sharing this page, keeping Michael in your thoughts, or sending good energy, prayers, or love means so much to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read Michael’s story and for supporting him and our family during this incredibly difficult time. We’re holding onto hope, taking things one day at a time, and feeling deeply grateful for the kindness around us. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Sam or Donny.
With love,
Michael’s Family
