Hello all.

Many of you know me as Jei, and if you have followed me for some time then you will also know of my dear amazing wife Mei.

Over the past two years, Mei has worked tirelessly and diligently on goals for improving her health, and in the process of doing so has managed to lose over 100 lbs with an improved lifestyle. As such, she also motivated my own lifestyle and health goals and we worked together to build each other up and continue on the journey which has been amazing!

After finally losing the weight, new health issues arose for Mei in her abdominal region, which were a result of a lifetime of obesity, along with past weight loss/gains through the years. These have started to greatly affect Mei’s quality of life with back pain and strain on her lower disc, increased anxiety, and skin problems in the area that are extremely difficult to take care of. After consulting a few different physicians and surgeons, she was told that the best route to proceed with would be surgery, since there is no longer any possibility of her skin regaining its elasticity and the muscles cannot repair themselves.

The procedure involves repairing the abdominal muscles and removal of a large amount of leftover skin which unfortunately, due to the insanely high bar set by our insurance in what is deemed ‘medically necessary’, the full cost of the surgery, supplies, and all fees fall on us. While both of us work, the cost of living in the SF bay area means that we essentially live month to month with our finances to afford food and rent, and paying for medical things is extremely difficult. I never want to ask for handouts, and this goes for Mei as well, but we find that we are in a place where we truly need help. We wrestled back and forth with consideration and discussion before coming to the decision to go about this route.

Having Mei be able to get this surgery would be a huge help in her quality of life as it would take away the pain and risk of back injury, alleviate & prevent the skin issues she has been suffering, and help boost her self confidence and mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing.

The surgery would take place locally and her recovery would be over the period of about 2 months before she would be fully healed and back to normal. We are raising money through this fundraiser to help with not just the surgery cost, but also with helping the blow of time off work and the other requirements needed during the recovery process.
