Supporting Meaghan's Fight for her Life

Why her? Why not me?  This is what most of us think when we first hear
that our loved one is sick. The hardest part is when hard things
happen to amazing souls

My sister has always been someone that beats to her own drum.
 - She completed an internship at a really cool goat farm caring for
animals as well as learning about sustainable farming and everything
involved in running a farm like that. She loves repurposing things and
making really cool, artistic things with heart and meaning.
- She loves to help with and organize events in the community that
would benefit others. For Christmas, her and I would put our money
together that we would have spent on each other as a family and gave
it away. One year we gave it to a waffle house waitress who had all of
her kids Christmas toys stolen out her car. Another Christmas, Meaghan
asked me to help her take her childhood toys to a safe shelter for
battered women so their kids would have things to play with.

This year things turned for the worse.  She began gaining weight and
assumed it was Covid weight gain related.  She began getting nauseous
and she managed through it. I was concerned so I went to her house to
help out and and refused to leave her till she sought help. I stayed
nights and finally got her to go to the doc on Monday last week. They
sent us straight to the er.

Meaghan was diagnosed with extremely advanced liver cirrhosis. They
drained 7 liters of fluid off of her belly and have had a drain in her
right lung for nearly a week. The hospital doctors in Greenville
exhausted all they know to do and have transferred her 3.5 hours away
to Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) transplant center to
get the help she needs.

Her condition is very serious and the prognosis they’re saying is not
good without a transplant. Unfortunately she cannot work and her
insurance may not cover everything she’s going to need.

The funds would be used to pay for her hospital stay and cover her basic needs.

Right now I am dreaming of the day that Meaghan once again can be her
joyful, sassy self. I am reminded by one of my favorites moments when
we were young and  she made instant coffee in the bathtub when she was
little and was so happy and proud to bring everyone (me and mom and
dad) a cup of it in bed!

As I walk through this journey with my sister I am reminded by Proverb 2:2-11

Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.

As I close, I am smiling at these photos and how much she lights up the world.

Thank you for supporting Meaghan as she fights to continue live
