My name is Taylor. I am Mary Jo's niece. My aunt has always supported and given her whole heart to her family. Her faith in God and positive attitude have helped her overcome many obstacles during her lifetime. Recently, she has needed support of her own. Auntie Jo is always willing to spend her time and money helping others while taking care of her two beautiful children. Working as a nurse has helped her fulfill a passion for helping others. She always answers the phone to lend a compassionate ear and drives hundreds of miles to see her family as often as possible. I would like to be there for her, like she would be there for friends and family in times of need.
In November of 2018, the day before Thanksgiving, an accidental discovery was made and Auntie Jo needed emergency surgery. She was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. The day after Thanksgiving doctors removed a 30 cm round tumor from her ovary while draining 3 gallons of fluid surrounding it and completed a full hysterectomy. While in the hospital recovering from surgery she was terminated from her job due to lack of sick time. She was two weeks shy of a year of employment and the company terminated her so they wouldn't have to pay for her FMLA. This left her sitting in the hospital with no insurance, no job, and no short term disability. Over the last three months she has been forced to deplete her savings to keep her family afloat. She started intense chemo in January where she needs to be in the hospital for 5 days at a time. Its devastating cumulative effects keep her from obtaining a new nursing position to pay the bills and support her family.
