Hello, my name is Skye. I am Mark’s eldest of six children.

In July 2025, our dad, Mark (50), was informed he had emphysema. After further testing, he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Early on, he underwent surgery to remove his left lung in hopes of eliminating the cancer. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful, as the cancer had already spread. We were devastated to learn that he still has cancer, but doctors are currently unable to locate it.

Because of this, Dad has begun chemotherapy. His treatment is very aggressive — his doctor explained that it is the strongest option available. Chemotherapy began on December 29th, following a schedule of two weeks on and one week off, for a total of four cycles (12 weeks). After this, Dad will undergo daily radiation therapy for six weeks.

This also means daily travel to Lyell McEwin Hospital while living a little over an hour away.

The financial burden cancer has brought upon our family was completely unforeseen. This GoFundMe has been created to help support Dad during this incredibly difficult time. The costs for travel, accommodation, dietary changes, medications, specialist appointments, and physiotherapy are quickly adding up and becoming overwhelming.

It is not easy to ask for help or to be this vulnerable, but any support — no matter how small — would mean the world to us. Every contribution will go directly toward supporting Dad through this fight.

update:

Mark/Dad is half way through his chemo treatment.

He has experienced a symptom called neuropathy and has a numb foot and reduced movement.

At this stage they have paused the chemotherapy treatment until further ct scans to check for nerve damage before he continues. He will have the scans this week and consult with the doctors next Monday. He is trying to gain weight and keep free of colds and infections in the meantime.
