Last Sunday a beloved member of the Annex community, Aland Portillo, unfortunately passed away. For over a decade alongside his wife María , the pair have ran Ave Maria Latin Cafe on Bloor. On Monday, a day after losing her husband, María was forced to reopen her restaurant.

With Alands recent and tragic passing, María is doing everything she can, from dealing with funeral costs to staff wages, rent, and daily café expenses continue to accumulate. It breaks my heart to see that immediately after losing her husband, María has been forced to reopen her restaurant.

This fundraiser is to help temporarily relieve the financial burden and stress on María, so she can have time and space to focus on herself instead of Ave Maria Latin Cafe. Thank you for honouring Aland and helping support his wife María José during this incredibly difficult moment.

El domingo pasado, un querido miembro de la comunidad en el Annex, Aland Portillo, tristemente falleció. Durante más de una década, junto a su esposa María, dirigieron Ave Maria Latin Cafe en Bloor. El lunes, apenas un día después de perder a su esposo, María se vio obligada a reabrir el restaurante.

Tras la reciente y trágica pérdida de Aland, María está haciendo todo lo posible para salir adelante. Los gastos funerarios, los sueldos del personal, la renta y los gastos diarios del café siguen acumulándose. Parte el corazón ver que, inmediatamente después de perder a su esposo, María ha tenido que volver a trabajar y reabrir el café.

Esta recaudación de fondos busca aliviar temporalmente la carga financiera y el estrés de María, para que pueda tener el tiempo y el espacio mental necesarios para enfocarse en ella misma. Gracias por honrar a Aland y por apoyar a su esposa, María José, en este momento tan difícil.
