First off, I need to say it: #FUCKCANCER. (This is Maria's husband, Brett.)

Alright, deep breath. Brett, stop crying, and let’s do this...

As many of you know, our 2024 Winter Break took an unexpected turn when Maria Luz was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Stage 2. She is receiving treatment at Dana-Farber. The road ahead will be long, but we are tackling it together as a family, step by step, with strength, hope, determination, and the unconditional love and support of those around us.

Maria’s treatment plan includes chemotherapy rounds through June 2025 (I know, way too long—oy vey). After that, she’ll undergo surgery, along with additional procedures that I won’t overwhelm you with here. It’s going to be a tough, arduous journey, but we are by her side every step of the way.

Maria Luz only turned 40 this year and is 100% the rock, pillar, strength and foundation our family is built on for the past 17 years, she’s been the glue that holds us together. All your support will go a long way. I know the cancer community is just like her, the epitome of strength, determination, love and care. I look forward to feeling all of that in the coming months and beyond.

Many of you may not know this, but Maria’s life’s work revolves around helping others. Her career and daily life are built on care, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference in people’s lives. She gives so much of herself to others, and now, we’re humbly asking for your help in giving back to her during this difficult time.

We deeply appreciate all the texts, emails, memes, and most importantly, your love and energy. We don’t want to go through this alone, and knowing we have your support makes a world of difference.

This is just a detour on the path, one that will only make Maria Luz stronger. TRUST ME.
