This afternoon, my oldest godson, Edgar “Mali” Malachi Medina was gently taken off of life support after 3 very difficult nights in the PICU, and passed away at just 16 years old, surrounded by his family.

Malachi was one of those kids who made everyone laugh without even trying. He was goofy, full of childlike innocence, and had an unmatched sense of humor that could brighten even the hardest days. When you needed him, he was there, no questions asked.

He was also a straight-A student and a dedicated speech and debate competitor, always pushing himself and excelling in everything he did. But more than his achievements, Malachi was deeply loved — by his friends, his classmates, his teachers, and his family. He had a way of making people feel comfortable, seen, and happy just by being his loving self.

Malachi was taken far too soon, but the love he gave and the joy he brought will never be forgotten. Any contribution, no matter how small, helps more than words can express. Prayers and kind thoughts also go a long way during this incredibly difficult time.
