Lyla’s family is asking for support as she faces an aggressive form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma. Lyla was diagnosed just after Thanksgiving, and since then almost everything in her life has revolved around hospitals, rehabilitation, and medical decisions. She has moved through three different hospital systems and has only been at home a few days since this journey began. Being away from family, home, her activities with Sweet Adelines and her dogs Marco, Oscar and Marley has been incredibly hard on her.

In January, Lyla underwent brain surgery. The surgery left her with limited use of her left side, and she will continue to need support with mobility and daily tasks. Lyla faces a long recovery. She’s expected to come home in late March, but getting the house ready for her arrival and transportation to and from medical appointments has become a large financial burden.

Some equipment has already been donated, and Medicare will cover some of the basics such as a medical bed and wheelchair. But there still remains important items she’ll need that are not covered, particularly with chemo and radiation starting in March and taking place five days a week for several weeks.

These are not extras; they are items she genuinely needs to come home, continue treatment, and regain quality of life.

Why we’re raising funds

The financial strain of months in the hospital, ongoing treatment, and the work needed to make her home accessible is becoming unmanageable. We are hoping to raise funds to help cover the things that will allow Lyla to settle-in at home and focus on healing.
