Family and friends,

Luke Aleo is the kind of person who brings people together.

Whether organizing a game night, cooking food for friends, rallying volunteers to help non-profits on the North Shore or just making people smile, Luke builds community wherever he goes. He is a devoted husband to his wife Heather (of 21 years!), a loyal friend and someone who shows up for others without hesitation.

One of the best ways to help Luke and Heather right now is through financial support. Funds will be used to help cover current and future medical costs, lost income during treatment and to provide stability for the household while Luke prioritizes his health.

We (including Luke's care team) are feeling really confident about the treatment plan that he has already embarked upon. We are now focused on eliminating excess stress, so he and Heather can fully focus on appointments, resting, recovery, self care (and repeat).

On behalf of Luke & Heather, we thank you so much for the love and generosity you have already extended. And, Thank you in advance for your donation. Luke loves and appreciates each of you. We all do!

We'll be in touch when there is more news to share.
Thanks again for your support!
GO TEAM LUKE!

HEALTH REPORT TO DATE:

Luke's symptoms began in the fall.

Following migraines, fatigue and confusion in November, and a lump in his neck in December, Luke underwent many tests from January into March.

  • Head and Chest CT Scan
  • EKG and Echocardiogram
  • MRI (x2)
  • Head-to-Thigh PET Scan

DIAGNOSIS:
Non-small cell metastatic non-smokers lung cancer (not caused by radon or the environment), with an EGFR G719A mutation. This mutation provides a target for modern drug therapies, giving Luke access to highly effective treatment options.

MASSES:
Scans found multiple cancer spots in his lungs, liver, spleen, bones, 21 tumors counted in his brain and spots in his lymph nodes, meaning the lung cancer spread to the lymph system.

TREATMENT PLAN:
Luke consulted with Dana Farber's Cancer Specialists and his own care team from Tufts Medical – everyone is on the same page that the following treatment plan is, without a doubt, the best path forward.

  • Tagrisso – a daily pill. This drug is highly effective against this type of cancer + mutation selection, especially in combination with chemo; It is expected to pass the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to affect all tumors (started daily dosage on Feb 25)
  • Carboplatin + Pemetrexed Chemo Treatments – administered with two infusions, once every 21 days for 4 cycles/months (the first one was just last Thu, Mar 12 – so far Luke reports fatigue and brain fog)

Luke and Heather remain hopeful and grateful for the incredible support of their friends, family and community.
