Supporting local Skateboarder John Mortimer battle cancer
Donation protected
We are supporting John Mortimer through his battle with Cancer. John is a local skateboarder and friend both within and outside the skateboard community. John has been a part of the skateboarder community for over 30 years and was diagnosed with cancer last week.
After becoming very ill in February, John has been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer in his lungs. After first discovering a 5cm and a 2cm mass in his lung John has now been seeing a specialist about his treatment. The docs have identified a lump node inside Johns lungs plus to one side of it but thankfully they can't see it anywhere else (so hopefully this means the cancer has not spread).
Starting this week John will have to endure 33 treatments of radiotherapy per week, for a total of 7 weeks. There will also be 2 treatments of chemotherapy during this time.
This means John will struggle to work for the next few months. This is on top of not having been able to work for most of this year so far due to being so unwell.
John has always loved his skateboarding and having loved a stone throw away from Slades Farm most of his life, has enjoyed skating with friends since being a teenager (Johns now 50). After a few years off John recently started to skate again and could often be seen at the Prevail Adults nights as well as around our local parks (Duck Lane, Kings Park, Prevail Skatehouse).
it would be great if as a community we can show John the support he needs in this testing time to kick the cancer and give it a big middle finger.
John has a lot of friends both within and outside of skating so it will be great to show John that we are all thinking of him and wish him the best in beating the cancer and recovering as quickly as possible. We are all looking forward to seeing you back skating soon
