Twelve-year-old Lily’s life changed suddenly after developing jaundice and a severely distended abdomen. She was taken to her local ER by her parents and quickly transferred to London Children’s Hospital, where a liver biopsy confirmed autoimmune hepatitis, a serious condition in which the immune system attacks the liver.

During her first hospital admission, Lily improved enough to return home and spend Christmas with her family — a moment of hope they were deeply grateful for. However, she required outpatient appointments every other day, and at each visit her bilirubin levels continued to rise. Just days later, even though Lily was feeling well, her symptoms noticeably worsened.

Since then, Lily has required numerous types of blood products to be transfused and has been placed on many medications. She is experiencing shortness of breath, severe fluid retention, and continues to decline despite the last few weeks of treatment. Doctors have now determined that a liver transplant is likely the next step.

Lily will be transferred to SickKids Hospital in Toronto to begin the transplant process. This journey brings an overwhelming emotional and financial burden, especially as her parents care for Lily and her two sisters.

We met this family while on vacation in 2024 and have since become very close, sharing a few more trips since we met and more being planned, we consider them family. They are incredible people facing an unimaginable situation.
