Our father, Lee, was diagnosed over the Christmas holiday with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in both his brain and spine. Our dad had been seen and discharged in the local emergency department 7 times in the last couple months simply to be turned away in excruciating pain while the cancer, undiagnosed, continued to spread. Our dad was suffering from debilitating pain, unable to walk, or move without extreme suffering. We are asking for your financial support to be able to spend time with our dad and to pursue looking for second opinions. Currently, my brother is in Bend with our dad and your financial support would allow us to both be present and able to spend time with our dad. We want to continue to support him in all the ways we can. I am a self-employed hair stylist and have been living this last year in AZ, prior to that I have lived and worked in West Linn, OR my entire life. My brother Caden is also self employed which doesn’t allow either of us paid time off to provide our dad the comfort we want for him.  I have to continue paying rent for my salon space in AZ until my lease is up this Spring which is impacting my time with my dad. Your financial support would afford us the opportunity to be with my dad- none of us know how long he has, but we can all agree that every moment we have with him is a blessing and cannot be taken for granted. While navigating this unnerving path, we are hoping to seek out second opinions from medical professionals outside of the local Bend, OR area.  It is uncertain whether insurance will cover this or not as it may not be considered “medically necessary”. We believe that seeking additional insight may guide us in making the best and most well informed decisions about our dad’s next steps and *hopefully* additional treatment options. We are not ready to say goodbye to our dad, but if we have to, we want to be able to spend the most time with him that we possibly can.
