My dear friend Kourtney suffered a medical emergency ending with the traumatic loss of her baby girl Brayla who was just 18/19 weeks gestation. Those of us who know Kourtney know what a bright light she is. Joy and kindness embody her and her empathy for others is palpable. Kourtney has started her journey of recovery both mentally and physically but has a long way to go. Let’s shower her with love and financial blessings to help her to continue to heal.
Here is Kourtney’s full story in her own words from a Facebook Post:
Just wanted to give friends and family a bit of an update: Friday I went into septic shock that caused an early labor and delivery (miscarriage) of our baby girl (18-19 weeks gestation) that I was so excited about having (after 2 boys). They baptized her as she was delivered, placed her on my chest, dressed her up all sweet a took some pictures, and gave me birth certificates with her foot and handprints on them. I was well-supported and given the time to grieve or hold onto her however long was needed. We will miss Brayla, and keep her in our hearts forever.
I had been having some medical issues for a few weeks, so after birthing in septic shock, an abscess was found in my abdomen near the uterus. They placed a central line in my neck to administer proper life-saving medications, antibiotics for the infection and blood pressure meds so they can and stabilize me and place the drain on the absces. Blood pressure stayed around 65/45 most of the day, finally stabilizing with the added meds and placement into the icu. My blood pressure has remained stable on the meds and with titrating down so far, but I’m pretty uncomfortable, and other organ systems have been affected and are being monitored. We don’t know how long I’ll be in the icu and what recovery looks like. It’s been an incredibly difficult journey.
John and the boys have visited, but this has rocked their world and they were pretty scared to see mom like this. Send lots of love our way
