Supporting KK's Recovery
Donation protected
Many of you already know that KK (Kraven, son to Cat Caligiuri) became ill in the early morning hours of Friday, March 22, 2019. He was taken to Summit Hospital in Hermitage, TN. By Saturday morning, he was completely unresponsive and his entire system was toxic. He was transported from Summit to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt via ambulance. KK was in the PCCU (Pediatric Critical Care Unit) until Monday night, March 25, when they moved him to a regular room.
KK is steadily improving, but there is still no diagnosis for what caused this illness. He had acidosis and encephalopathy, but thankfully he is on the mend. He is experiencing tremors and is getting physical therapy now.
The good thing? Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt staff is the very best. KK has had every specialist known to humankind treating him.
The bad thing? KK’s mom, Cat, who is a self-employed , self-supporting single mother, and who has not left KK's side, has had to miss more than a full week of work - with more time off a near guarantee as KK recovers. Because she is self-employed, she does not have the benefit of utilizing Paid Time Off or FMLA to care for KK.
KK’s illness is still a mystery and the road to recovery is still to be determined. To help defray the cost of potentially several weeks of missed income, hospital copays and bills, possible ongoing physical therapy for KK, gas commuting from her home in Donelson to follow-up doctor appointments, her friends have started this GoFundMe page. You know Cat, her sisters, and her mother, Shirley, would do the same for us. Maybe we can ease the worries about missed work and hospital bills so she can focus entirely on KK and have a little breathing room for some self care.
