Hi everyone,
We are asking for help for a very special cat named Kevin.
Kevin is a 7-year-old male house cat who belongs to my friend, Stephen Hancock. He has always been a healthy, loving, and responsive cat. Just after returning home from Thanksgiving vacation around 2 AM, Stephen found that something was very wrong. Kevin was lying in bed, barely responding to treats or attention the way he normally would. Instead of greeting him, Kevin only looked up and began to howl in pain. When we tried to gently move him, the pain clearly worsened, and we knew immediately this was an emergency.
Kevin was rushed to the vet, where it was discovered that he had a severely enlarged and painfully full bladder, a life-threatening condition in male cats. The emergency treatment required:
Inserting a catheter
Draining his bladder
Monitoring him for 12 hours
The cost for this initial lifesaving care alone was $2,700.
The vet recommended keeping Kevin hospitalized for 24–42 hours for continued monitoring, which came with an estimated cost of around $12,000. Because of the overwhelming expense, Stephen made the difficult decision to bring Kevin home and monitor him closely himself with strict dietary changes, bottled water, and constant observation.
This fundraiser is being created to help recover the $2,700 already spent, plus any additional follow-up costs and potential future care. All funds raised will go only into an account dedicated to Kevin’s medical expenses.
Unfortunately, the vet explained that male cats who experience bladder obstruction are at high risk for recurrence. If Kevin’s bladder becomes blocked again, the situation can become fatal within 24–72 hours without immediate treatment.
A blocked bladder can lead to:
Extreme pain
Kidney failure
Electrolyte imbalance affecting the heart
Bladder rupture
And ultimately, death if untreated
As heartbreaking as it is to say, if this happens again and the cost of care cannot be afforded, Stephen’s only remaining option would be euthanasia—not because Kevin can’t be treated, but because the treatment may simply be financially impossible.
Kevin is a sweet, gentle soul with so much life left to live. This fundraiser is about giving him a chance to recover without the constant fear that money alone could determine his fate.
Any amount means more than we can express. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as appreciated.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and for helping Kevin fight for his life.
