A few weeks ago, our dear friend Kevin experienced an unimaginable loss — his partner, Mel, passed away after a long battle with her mental health.
Mel was so much more than what happened in her final moments. She was light, compassion, and strength — someone who gave so much of herself to others, even when she was struggling inside. She was a passionate advocate for mental health, always reminding those around her that it’s okay to not be okay, and that reaching out for help is a sign of courage, not weakness.
Many of us know Mel through F45 Bridgeland, where she coached. At the studio, as in her daily life, she had a spark that drew people in, a smile that lifted others, and a way of making you feel like you truly mattered. Over time, she became one of our closest friends. She meant so much to us, and we loved her deeply.
Kevin and Mel shared a beautiful, genuine love — one that inspired everyone who knew them. Losing her has left an enormous hole in his heart, and in ours too. Right now, Kevin is staying in Calgary, surrounded by his family and friends as he takes the time he needs to heal and find his way forward.
We’ve created this GoFundMe to help give Kevin a little breathing room — to cover everyday expenses and to care for Addi, the sweet dog he and Mel shared, who’s also feeling this loss in her own way.
Our goal is simply to lift some of the weight off Kevin’s shoulders so he can focus on taking care of himself and honouring Mel’s memory in the process. Any contribution, big or small, means so much — and it will go directly toward helping Kevin and Addi as they begin to rebuild their lives.
Mel believed deeply in the power of community and connection, and we know she would want that same love and support to surround Kevin now.
Thank you for helping us show up for him — and for honouring Mel, whose kindness, empathy, and heart will never be forgotten.
