Keoni "Coach K" Kailua, a beloved member of our bonfire, picnic, hiking, softball, and outdoor adventure groups, was recently diagnosed with metastatic cancer. Keoni is the “godfather” of Seattle Meetup groups and has tirelessly created events for Seattleites for almost a decade.
The hike description you recently saw on Meetup was probably still using language Keoni drafted long ago. His passion for softball led to the founding of large PNW softball communities (as far as Oregon), followed by leagues and tournaments. He creates themes for these events, making them fun while fostering a sense of belonging for people from various backgrounds. If you are new to Seattle and worry about the “freeze”, Keoni will make sure you are invited to his events and community.
