Supporting Kaden on his Journey

For everyone who hasn't heard, Kaden was in a bad accident Thursday night (10/10/2024). He's in a coma right now with a serious head injury. He has several fractures on his skull and face, basically from ear to ear. He was taken by ambulance to Matsu Hospital and then flown to Providence in Anchorage.

Since arriving Thursday night, Kaden has been making progress. On Day 2, he started breathing on his own and showed some body movements. Day 3 began well, with him coughing, gagging, and reacting to stimuli. However, we did have our first minor setback. He experienced a neuro storm in the morning and was posturing throughout the day. We ended up putting him back on ventilation to assist with breathing and give him a break.

Day 4 was rough for Kaden; he went into a neuro storm, and his brain pressure (ICP) rose to 50. Ideally, with this type of injury, they want to keep his ICP below 20. They sedated him to help keep him calm. Due to the storm, he developed a fever, which spiked to 104 and then dropped to 96. He is currently leaking spinal fluid from his ears and nose due to the fractures.

On Day 5, Kaden was sedated throughout the day to prepare for surgery. He went into surgery at 3 PM (AK time) and had two titanium plates inserted to help with the leakage and fractures. Unfortunately, since titanium was used, that means no MRIs. On a positive note, the trachea was successfully put in place, and he remained stable throughout the operation.

We still do not know what the future holds for Kaden or our family.

Kaden is a 19-year-old who is well known throughout the community. He loves, cares for, and adores his family and friends. Kaden enjoys playing basketball, chasing the snow, and riding in the mountains. He works at Team CC, where he fuels his passion for anything with a motor. From sleds to ATVs, Kaden is not afraid to get his hands dirty.

We are currently making strides day by day on the road to recovery. It's going to be a long and bumpy ride, and we really appreciate all the support, prayers, positive vibes, or whatever you can send our way.
