My name is Jamal, and I created this GoFundMe for my nephew, Jamil Merrell Jr. (JR), after the heartbreaking loss of his father, Jamil Nehemiah Merrell Sr.

There are no words that can truly describe the pain our family is feeling. Jamil wasn’t just a father, son, brother, uncle, and friend he was the kind of person who left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He had a rare gift of making people feel seen, valued, loved and better than what they were before.

Over the past several years, Jamil fought one of the toughest battles anyone could face: cancer. As the disease progressed, it brought countless challenges, but if you knew Jamil, you know he never let it define him. He never complained. He never gave up. As he always said, “I never folded.” He faced every obstacle with courage, strength, and unwavering faith, always putting others before himself.

More than anything, Jamil loved being a father. His greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was his son, JR. The bond they shared was something truly special, and the love Jamil had for his son was unconditional. While nothing can ever replace a father’s love, we want to make sure JR knows that he will never walk this journey alone.

This fundraiser has been created to help provide JR with stability and support as he grows up without his dad by his side. Funds will be placed into an investment account for JR and preserved for his future, becoming available to him when he turns 18. It is our hope that this gift will help him pursue his dreams, whether that’s college, a career, or simply giving him a stronger foundation as he begins adulthood.
