Supporting Johanna Richard Through Stroke Recovery

Just a few weeks ago, Johanna experienced a stroke; a sudden and unexpected event that has turned her family's life upside down. Johanna’s stroke has affected her balance and coordination. She is struggling to use her right arm and leg. In addition to all of this, she is having to relearn how to write, walk and do many other of her daily activities that were once normal. Johanna is currently on steroids to reduce the swelling in her brain. As a community who has watched Johanna grow, witnessing her struggle with such a devastating health crisis is truly heartbreaking.

In the wake of this life-altering event, Johanna's family has been unwavering in their support for her, ensuring she receives the best care possible. They are currently in Boston at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, where Johanna is undergoing extensive therapy and treatment. There is no stone being left unturned and they are conducting numerous tests to provide answers and guidance for Johanna. Despite the uncertainty surrounding her condition, her family remains hopeful that she will make a full recovery. Johanna was a perfectly healthy child, and it's still unclear why this happened.

While Johanna's continued strength and resilience inspire us all, the financial burden of medical expenses, therapies, and accommodations weighs heavily on her family. Even with insurance, the costs continue to mount, placing significant strain on their finances.
