Jay Nick is a pretty amazing young man. Sadly, he’s facing another battle and he and his family need our support. After battling medulloblastoma (a form of brain cancer) 5 years ago, he has had a devastating recurrence of his cancer and now has a tumor on his cervical spine. He’s undergone surgery to biopsy the tumor and the results show that this new tumor is a recurrence of the medulloblastoma. The recurrence of this tumor is incredibly rare and makes it much more challenging to treat.
So far, Jay has undergone 4 rounds of chemotherapy. He will need additional chemotherapy, but there’s still some uncertainty surrounding that treatment plan. Today the decision was made that Jay will undergo proton radiation therapy at Mayo Clinic. The plan is for Jay to have radiation twice a day (morning and afternoon) Monday-Friday for a minimum of 4 weeks. The good news is he can come home to Duluth on the weekends.
The expenses associated with his treatment plan will be significant. Shelly has used all of her PTO and any additional time off will be unpaid or hopefully covered by PTO donations from colleagues. There will be expenses associated with travel, food, and medical bills. Thankfully they are able to stay with family to avoid lodging costs, but this adds an hour commute each way to Mayo daily. Any financial support that you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated at this time.
While the financial donations are most needed, I’m really hoping we can also make sure that Jay has a little bit of fun to look forward to. I’m looking for those of you that may have connections, or are willing to donate to some of the following activities and events for Jay and his friends and/or family.
*MN Twins Game Tickets
*MN Vikings Game Tickets
*MN Gopher Football Tickets
*Casino & Hotel Weekend
*Fishing Charter
*Cabin Weekend
*Rounds of Golf
Jay plans to attend St. Scholastica on a premed track to become a Physician’s Assistant. While his start date is a bit uncertain with the timelines of treatments still being determined, his dream of a career in healthcare remains.
Jay is going to do great things, and it’s an honor and a privilege for all of us to help support him on this journey back to good health. Thank you in advance for your love, support, prayers, and any financial assistance you are able to provide.
If you’d like to fund one of the activities for Jay, please reach out to this page directly by sending a message so I can coordinate this for him. Thank you!
