Supporting Jason in a time of need

Hi, thank you for visiting this page. We are the nieces and nephew of Jason Poortenga; Austin, Hope and Summer. Our uncle was instructed by his nurse practitioner after getting back his CT scan results to take himself into the hospital. He went to the emergency room at Munster Community Hospital on August 2nd. He was feeling unwell for a week or so prior which is what prompted him to go to the doctor in the first place. After a CT scan and running some other tests, the situation was more serious than expected. He does not complain about much but the pain he was feeling was getting worse to the point where it was unbearable. It was found that he had abdominal aortic blockage and all circulation was beginning to be cut off from his lower organs and extremities. He has a blood clot in his left ventricle and has severe cardiovascular disease with possibly an irregular heart beat which could potentially be what’s causing the blood clots. As of right now, they still are not exactly sure what is causing the blood clots or how they formed in the first place. On Thursday, August 3rd, he was scheduled to be transported to have an emergency surgery at Loyola Hospital early in the morning. He was then placed in the ICU while being monitored very closely, still running tests and another CT scan. After the results of the second CT scan came back, they found another blood clot in the same place they had done surgery. He was called for another emergency procedure on Wednesday, August 9. They put a stint in at the superior mesenteric artery, either next to or close to the original surgery where they removed the blockage. He still has a blood clot in his left ventricle and blockage to his legs but these are currently secondary concerns. At this point, he is still in the ICU and still being monitored very closely. Seeing that this is a very serious matter and already having had two emergency procedures so close to each other, it will be a longer recovery. As of today, it is predicted for him to be in the hospital for 2-3 months for recovery and to be monitored but this is just an observation given his current condition. Given the critical condition he is in, we want to help in any way that we can. Jason has a daughter, our cousin Emily who is in her 20s that need some support despite how strong they may be, nobody should ever have to go through anything alone. Jason also has a business of his own. Being that he is self employed as a solo entrepreneur, he takes care of everything himself and has employees to think about as well. We want to make sure everything with his business is being taken care of properly, as well as his home to take some of that stress off during this time. We want to make sure him and his daughter have the support that they need. Speaking from experience, being at the age Emily is at and having something so tragic happen to her father still at a young age, it’s confusing, scary, and very hard. We have put this page together to help support Jason and Emily to cover any bills possible, keep his business afloat, make sure their home is taken care of and to just show them that people are here for them. Any amount is helpful and appreciated! We ask that you keep Jason, Emily, and our family in your prayers. Thank you for taking the time to read this, we appreciate your help!
