On Friday 28 August, our family received the devastating news that James had been involved in a serious quad bike accident. As a result of his injuries, he was urgently flown by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he underwent emergency spinal surgery in the early hours of Saturday morning.
James sustained severe spinal cord injuries, resulting in the loss of sensation and movement from the T11 level down. As a result, he currently has no feeling in his legs and is unable to walk, facing significant challenges as he begins his road to recovery. Since the accident, he has spent time in the Intensive Care Unit and is now recovering in the Spinal Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He will remain there until his medical team determines he is ready to be transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Adelaide, where the next stage of his recovery journey will begin.
This tragic accident has had an enormous impact on our family, both emotionally and financially. While James continues to receive treatment in Adelaide, family members will need to travel regularly between Alice Springs and Adelaide to support him during this incredibly challenging time. These unexpected expenses, including travel, accommodation, meals, and everyday living costs, come on top of the ongoing household bills and financial commitments that remain back home in Alice Springs.
We have created this GoFundMe page to help ease some of the financial burden on our family. Your support will allow us to focus on what matters most: being by James's side as he navigates his recovery and adjusts to the challenges that lie ahead.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference and is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page with your family, friends, and community would mean the world to us.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this difficult time.
