Supporting James Cain in His Final Fight Against Glioblastoma

Written by April Lesher:
On the evening of Monday, May 19, 2025, our family’s world changed. My dad, James Cain, went to the ER after we noticed sudden and concerning changes in his personality and behavior. Earlier that same day, he was unexpectedly let go from his job — a moment that deeply alarmed our family and led us to seek immediate medical care.

Following scans and a brain biopsy at Akron City Hospital, James was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive and fast-growing brain cancer. After being hospitalized for several days, he was released home on Memorial Day to rest and prepare for a treatment plan. Unfortunately, just two days later, he was rushed back to the ER.

A new MRI revealed heartbreaking news: in just nine days, the tumor had grown significantly. It is now affecting critical parts of his brain, including the areas that control breathing and heart rate. Based on this rapid progression, doctors have told us that James will not recover. He will be transitioned to inpatient hospice care while still in the hospital, where he will be kept comfortable and surrounded by loved ones.

This is an unimaginable moment for our family. James is the center of our lives — a husband, father, and friend who held us together with his strength, warmth, and quiet love. We are now preparing to say goodbye far sooner than we ever expected.

Many people have asked how they can help. Your support — whether through donations, sharing this page, or sending love and prayers — helps ease the tremendous emotional and financial burden we are facing. Any contributions will go toward:
    •    Hospice and end-of-life care
    •    Medical bills and related expenses
    •    Travel and lodging for family
    •    Funeral arrangements and memorial costs
    •    Supporting our mom and family during this transition

Thank you for standing with us during the most painful chapter of our lives. We are grateful for every message, every prayer, and every act of kindness.

With all our love,
The Cain Family
