Dear friends and family,
This is very hard for us to discuss and I hope that you’ll appreciate the sensitivity of what follows. Our friend J has endured a situation that few, if any of us, can even begin to fathom.
The goal of this GoFundMe is to use your donation to provide J the type of support that she is likely to need after her ordeal. There are resources online for how to a victim of violent crime (e.g. https://www.fbi.gov/resources/victim-services/coping-with-victimization or https://members.victimsofcrime.org/help-for-crime-victims/get-help-bulletins-for-crime-victims/trauma-of-victimization) and if you are comfortable offering this type of help, it would offer J considerable comfort. I hope you reach out and let J know you care about her tomorrow, next week, a month from now, two months from now... It can be hard to know the right thing to say, or feel intrusive, or just don’t know what to do. That is the purpose of this GoFundMe.
Well-being services and resources can be expensive, and your contribution will show J your love and support. Your gift will help her in the way that provides the maximum benefit; whether it be counseling, personal security resources, home security resources, or other ways that may help J during this difficult time. This would also help her pursue her dream of joining the medical field to help others through their own traumatic experiences.
Our goal of $10,000 comes from the average cost of PTSD assistance ($10,000 over 4 years), increased home security measures, and personal security and emotional support needs.
Thank you for your consideration and we hope you join us to give J the support she needs now and in the near future. Your contribution is a truly meaningful way to assist her during this very difficult time. Thank you!
- Sarah (J's friend)
P.S. Since the crime is still an ongoing investigation, we kindly ask that you refrain from using names (just initials) if you choose to comment. Please understand the sensitivity of this situation. Thank you.
