Deep breath…
Hello everyone.
As many of you will have already heard, our lovely, funny, brilliant Harry (Watling) is currently in UCLH undergoing his first round of Chemo, having been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma.
I imagine, like us, and everyone I have spoken to, you feel like you want to help but don't know how.
There are no words to describe how indiscriminate & cruel this disease is, but while Harry kicks it’s arse, we want to try and make things a little bit easier for him, David, Ryan, Patsy, and the rest of their family.
The Watlings are the most incredible, close, loving family – they are part of so many communities and a hugely positive part of so many people’s lives. They are always the first to offer help and support to anyone that needs it, and so many of us are lucky enough to have them in our lives – they are family to so many of us.
We believe that other than being there for them all, when they need support, the best way we can help them is by doing some fundraising to help relieve the heavy costs of travel to London, lost income and providing anything needed for Harry, to make this journey as comfortable as possible.
Harry started chemo yesterday and will go through 9 rounds initially - in 2 week cycles. (2 types of chemo in rotation). While he has his chemo days (3 on 11 off / 5 on 9 off), he will stay down next to UCLH, in the Macmillan Hotel, and go into the hospital for his treatment every day.
We want to try and take as much pressure and worry away as possible, especially with finances- and give them the resources to be able to do what they need to without that added worry – whether that is to take Harry out for dinner during chemo or give him anything he needs/wants or pay for things for them to look forward to between treatments. David was also due to start his new job this week, which makes the pressure even greater for them.
With their permission we are setting a up a GoFundMe, which we hope you will help us get out as far and wide as possible.
We're hoping that people will give what they can, and that once the initial donations have come in, we can keep up the momentum by doing some fundraising events too. They have asked that in time any remaining donations be given to MacMillan Cancer Support.
We really want to be able to look after the whole family as much as we can, and this seems like the first step in doing that, we hope you agree.
Please share this as far and wide as you can.
Any help and ideas are really welcome – please get in touch.
With love to you all, but especially to the Watlings (we love you so much) xxxx
