Supporting Hannah & Joe in Their Time of Need

Hi, our names are Hannah and Joe. We are a team in every sense of the word—partners in life, love, and now, in one of the biggest battles we’ve ever faced.

As a registered nurse, Hannah has spent her career caring for others. But now, she finds herself in a position where she needs help. And as her husband, I (Joe) am standing beside her every step of the way.

For the past month, Hannah has been battling excruciating back and neck pain. At first, we thought it was a simple strain or a work-related injury from lifting patients. She tried everything—heat, ice, massage, even seeing a chiropractor—but nothing helped. The pain only got worse. After weeks of waiting for an MRI, she could barely function. That’s when her mom and I rushed her to the emergency room at Abbott, desperate for answers.

We were expecting to hear that she had a slipped disc. Instead, we were told something no one ever wants to hear: Hannah has a tumor inside her spinal cord. Her neurosurgeon is hopeful that it is benign, but it is large, pressing on her spinal cord, and causing severe pain, tingling, and inflammation. Surgery is necessary to remove it, not only to relieve the pain but to prevent permanent damage or even paralysis. The tumor will also need to be biopsied to confirm it’s not cancerous.

We are doing everything we can to stay strong, but this journey comes with enormous financial burdens. Between medical expenses, time off for surgery, recovery, and rehabilitation we are deeply worried about how we will make ends meet.
