Supporting Grandma Sarah: ICU Coma Recovery Fund

Donation protected
On August 19th, 2023, My Grandma Sarah woke up in the middle of the night crying out in pain and calling on her main man (Jesus) to help relieve her pain. Grandma told us that her neck was stiff and that she was in a lot of pain and then started vomiting. When paramedics arrived, Grandma was alert and requesting prayer but between the ambulance ride and her arrival to the hospital, Grandma lost consciousness and slipped into a coma.

At the hospital, her physicians ran tests and discovered that Grandma had a brain bleed which was the cause of her symptoms. Due to her age (88) and the severity of the situation, Grandma was airlifted to a specialty hospital where an emergency procedure took place to drain blood from her brain and check for damaged blood vessels. Thankfully, the procedure was successful.

Since this event, Grandma has been in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) in a coma.

Having a loved one in a coma is an incredibly difficult and emotional experience. At times there is a level of uncertainty wondering when she will fully wake up and what her long-term prognosis will be. I’m beyond thankful that we have a supportive healthcare team that answers all of our questions and provides frequent updates on my Grandma's condition.

At her current hospital, Grandma is allowed to have a family member on site around the clock to support her emotionally, communicate with her and most importantly make sure she stays encouraged as she is still able to hear us despite her eyes not being open.

Grandma spends her days in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) listening to gospel music, her favorite pastors and surrounded by loved ones. We are a family of faith and believing that Grandma will make a full recovery and awake from her coma one day soon. As my Grandma always says, the fight is on.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering making a donation to support my Grandma during this challenging time. Your generosity can make a remarkable difference in our lives.

Your contributions will directly impact my Grandmother’s well-being in several vital ways:

Medical Cost: Your donations will help cover the mounting medical bills and co-pays that come with her treatment.

Specialized Treatment: We are determined to provide her with the best possible care, including specialized treatments that offer hope and healing. Your support makes these options a reality.

Travel and Lodging: Ensuring she receives the care she needs often requires us to travel long distances in order to get to the hospital daily. Your donations ensure that we are able to meet this need.

Quality of Life: Your donations will enable us to improve her quality of life, offering moments of comfort and joy along the road to recovery.

Assistive Devices: As her needs evolve, assistive devices will be necessary to enhance her independence and comfort. Your donations will make these vital tools accessible.

Your kindness and compassion will allow me to remain by her side, providing the love and care she deserves. Together, we can make a positive impact in her journey towards recovery and improved well-being. Thank you for your support, thoughts and prayers and remember- The Fight is On.

Love,
Ariel and Grandma Sarah
