My grandparents built their home on Los Alamos Road in the 1960s. Over the years, they raised their boys and myself, their grandson, on this rugged and beautiful terrain in Northern California. Recent years have seen much loss. First, my grandfather, Charles, passing as a result of Alzheimer's Disease, then her second grandson, and, most recently, her youngest son. Up in the hill, with the help of my father, my grandmother Lillian persevered and thrived on the property they'd built.
Now, at 94 years old, the agricultural climate of Northern California finally hit home.
Last Sunday night, the Glass Fire raged over the Eastern Hills of Santa Rosa and took everything that was left. I know there are so many that have lost, so many who struggle, and I don't want anything that cannot be parted with. But, I'm told today that only the stone fireplaces remain of the world she and Charles had built for The Rhinehart Family. Everything else...perished. I wish to give her the world, but can only do what I can. I ask those who are familiar with loss and capable of generosity to assist my grandmother in finding ease in navigating these difficult next steps. Please, do what you can for an amazing woman who, in the latter years of her glory, should never be forced into such strife. Thank you, and may God bless you, and us all.
