Standing with Biruktawit and Getayawkal!

For over 40 years, Biruktawit and Getayawkal have been more than just gospel singers — they have been a source of hope, faith, and inspiration to the Ethiopian community. Through their music and ministry, they have touched countless lives, both in Ethiopia and since making the United States their home in 2011. They are deeply loved, respected, and have always given selflessly to others.

Today, it is our turn to stand with them.

Since 2014, Biruktawit has been courageously battling a serious medical condition — a blood clot in her brain that has affected the left side of her body, impacting her arm and leg. Despite this, she continued to serve, sing, and uplift others with incredible strength and faith.

In February 2026, she underwent a highly complex 10 hour brain surgery at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia to remove the Cavernoma. By God’s grace, the surgery was completed, but her journey to recovery is just beginning.

Biruktawit is currently in a rehabilitation center, where she will remain for the next 6 to 8 months. She is already showing great strength — she can speak slowly, eat, and move with support — but she still faces a long road ahead. Her recovery will require intensive physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy to help her regain full mobility and independence.

The emotional and physical toll has been immense, but so is the financial burden.

Even with insurance support, the cost of surgery, rehabilitation, ongoing therapy, and medical care remains a significant financial burden. As treatment continues, the expenses are expected to grow, placing increasing pressure on them during this critical time of recovery.

Throughout their lives, Biruktawit and Getayawkal have poured into others without hesitation. Now, they need us.
