Supporting Genesis’ Family: Justice Demanded
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Genesis, a first-time mom to my 9-month-old daughter Aaliyah. We’re fighting to stay housed after Amazon’s pregnancy discrimination caused me to become homeless.
When I told Amazon I was expecting, they delayed my accommodations and wrote me up for sitting down and taking breaks—even after I fainted and was sent to the ER. After that, I was forced onto unpaid leave, then transferred far away, and my hours were cut in half. My partner was also fired from Amazon. As a result, we lost our home and had to live in our car. The stress caused me to go into early labor, and Aaliyah was born on October 23rd. Because Amazon put me on unpaid leave and cut my hours, I no longer qualified for maternity leave or FMLA, benefits I had been counting on. Postpartum depression made it even harder to stay afloat.
I’m now a part of Warehouse Life—a group of pregnant and injured Amazon workers fighting for justice—and have a lawyer representing me in a pregnancy discrimination case, but the process is long. A housing program has kept us afloat, but it ends August 21st.
Without help, I’ll be living in my car again, this time with a hyper baby. All donations will go directly toward housing, baby supplies, and keeping Aaliyah safe. Any amount helps us get through this fight. Thank you!!!
