Gavin Charlie was your average 9 year old. Playing baseball, Riding his scooter, holding lemonade stands in the summer and making memories with his family.
He is the baby of the sister siblings and always the witty, fun loving, life of the party. He loves to play the piano, listen to The Beatles and play video games with his cousins and friends.
This all changed in the summer of 2019 when Gavin suffered from a Grand Mal seizure early in the morning. Since this day, Gavin’s mom has advocated tirelessly, through medication changes, seizure testing, hospital stays and finally landing Gavin in the care of Stanford Pediatric Neurology in Palo Alto, California.
Gavin’s diagnosis puts him at the highest possible risk of SUDEP (Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients). Having Nocturnal Epilepsy, seizures that originate in sleep, are the most dangerous. There is no other fear that this family has experienced, as heavy as the fear of the possibility of losing this precious boy, every night, when he goes to sleep.
This year Gavin was so excited to be granted his wish, through the Make a Wish Foundation. However, he cannot go on this trip, until this surgery is complete and he is healed.
Within the last few months, his diagnosis has now progressed into daytime seizures and has kept Gavin from pursuing his love for Flag Football and many of the other sports that he aspires to play.
This recent drastic change in Gavin’s diagnosis, has caused him to have to be homeschooled, until his seizures can get under control.
Gavin is scheduled for an invasive surgery, this November 2022, at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, to help locate where his seizures are originating from within his brain, to help find a cure, so that he can live a semi normal life.
This upcoming surgery and hospitalization will last up to 3 weeks for monitoring and recovery time. Gavin’s mom will be by his side the duration of his stay. This hardship to juggle work and normal life has caused immense unimaginable, strain on this family. Hospital bills, travel, lodging expenses and missed time at work to support Gavin are quickly building.
We are asking at this time, for any amount of a donation to help bless this boy and to ease some of the stress during this life altering time and the upcoming Holidays.
