Supporting Eric & Denise Through Recovery

In early April, Eric was in an accident caused by another driver. He sustained a concussion that doctors initially expected would resolve in just a few days. However, recovery has been much longer and more challenging than anticipated. At first, we were told the 3-month mark might bring a turning point. Now, at 4.5 months, while there are encouraging signs of progress,

Eric’s recovery has been unpredictable—some weeks feel like steps forward, and others like steps back. Even small tasks can overwhelm his brain and require days of rest before he can re-engage. Currently, he is only able to work at about 35% of his previous capacity, while juggling multiple medical appointments each week to support his healing. He has an appointment at the end of August with a clinic in Portland that came highly recommended.

The Beins series of unfortunate events expanded when Eric was in a bike accident in early June. He hit a very large unmarked pothole on a city bike path. He suffered rib injuries, several broken teeth, reinjuring a knee and more. The city has denied responsibility and they plan to pursue that further, when time allows. In the meantime, this also added several unpaid medical expenses, as well as several medical appointments and ongoing physical issues.

This has created a significant financial strain. Beyond Eric’s reduced income, Denise has had to step into more of a caregiver role while also trying to manage both of their businesses, which has further impacted their livelihood. On top of lost income, there are ongoing medical and recovery expenses not covered by insurance. Eric and Denise are trusting in his full recovery, but the timeline is uncertain. In the meantime, they are navigating an overwhelming season.
