Dear Friends, Family and Generous Supporters,
My name is Melody Elliott. I am known by all of my nieces and nephews as Aunt Moe. I have taken my job very seriously and I love each and every one of them.
My niece Bethany and her husband Andy Myers gave birth to twin girls on April 15 and the girls were immediately taken away by ambulance 2 and a half hours away to Virginia Commonwealth University. Bethany didn't even get to hold her babies. Though the babies came at 37 weeks, they entered this world facing numerous medical challenges that require intensive care and treatment.
Emma was put on the ECMO soon after birth. She also needed emergency surgery for collapsed lungs. She had to have another surgery yesterday to place a new drainage tube in her chest and remove blood that was leaking into her lung. Emma's little body has been through so much already. It has only been a little over a week and little Emma has had two surgeries and multiple blood transfusions. She is having seizures so the doctors have had to balance getting more oxygen into her blood but not have the blood too thick as to cause blood clots. She was also born with a mass in her chest and the doctors have't figured out what it is as of yet. She is in critical condition.
Samatha is also in critical condition but she is stable. She is having a hard time breathing on her own. Bethany and her husband Andy were finally able to hold her a few days ago.
Emma and Samatha have shown incredible resilience and strength in their short time here. We know it is because of so many praying for this precious family. However, their journey is far from easy. They are fighting the odds every single day. God has been so good and we will never forget that.
The road ahead is filled with uncertainty, medical expenses, and emotional ups and downs.
Your kindness and generosity will not only support our family during this challenging time but will also give these precious babies the fighting chance they deserve. Your generous contributions will go directly towards covering the cost of medical treatments, specialized equipment, ongoing therapies and any other expenses associated with the twins NICU stay and future care.
We thank you for your prayers, compassion, generosity, and unwavering support.
With much love,
Aunt Moe
