Supporting ICU Nurse Elise through Cancer

Hi everyone, our family has been struck with devastating and difficult circumstances this last year. On September 23rd, 2022, our mother passed away unexpectedly with our baby sister Elise and our father trying to save her. On top of this, Elise's best friend had been diagnosed with cancer, then given the all clear only to relapses within months. Now, we may be facing Elise going through similar treatments.

On August 11th, Elise had surgery to remove what they feared may be a tumor from her face. She took her last two weeks of PTO off from her job as an ICU/ Rapid Response Nurse job to recover.

On August 31st, Elise got the call we were all dreading and was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of salivary gland cancer. We don't know the extent of the condition or the treatment yet, as she is still undergoing testing.

Then, this past Wednesday, September 6th, she started having extreme pain and was rushed to the emergency room, where they told her she needed emergency surgery to correct an ovarian torsion. Unfortunately, it took them over 5 hours to transfer her to the hospital where she could have the surgery, and then at that hospital, it took an additional 20 hours to redo testing to confirm her diagnosis. She had her surgery after 27 hours of horrific pain. Because she no longer has PTO, she has to return to work 12-hour shifts without adequate time to recover. On top of mounting hospital bills at a hospital that is out of network and cancer treatments.

She never asks for help and would give you anything you need. It's our turn to help our family, friend, and a nurse who has dedicated her life to helping those in need.
