Supporting Elena & Family - ROHADD
Hi, my name is Bea and I am fundraising for Elena & family. What you may know is our family has been on a journey with our own daughter dubbed by a team at MASSGeneral a "diagnostic puzzle". This involves an excruciating process of ruling a possible diagnosis in or out. Along the way we have met some amazing children and their families. Elena Gill touched our hearts. Our families continue to support each other. I am moved to action now.
Elena suffers from a childhood illness that is very rare called ROHHAD. ROHHAD is basically a failure of the hypothalamus. Since Elena was 12 years old, she has been hospitalized numerous times. Elena has specialists for almost every organ in her body. She continues, however, to be a normal teenager which is all she really wants for herself. Unfortunately, Elena is currently hospitalized for something brand new. Once again, Elena is proving to be a medical mystery. She has been hospitalized for over a month now due to bizarre blood counts. As you can see from the photo, Elena is a true warrior and puts on a brave face. In other moments, we clearly see the sadness, pain, anger, frustration, and deep disappointment with the body that fails her and the loss of summer after all that ROHHAD and the pandemic has taken from her.
I/We want to give Elena and her family something back.
I would like to ask your help for the family finances. For the last month, work has been almost impossible due to daily calls with doctors, visits to the hospital, and stress. Any amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated and welcome. (Imagine if the family could go on vacation in August giving Elena and family a much needed summer break?) At present, this looks impossible due to the lack of income during July and the expenses related to this hospitalization. The money raised would first and foremost replace the depleted funds from this hospital stay . The immediate concern is rent. The family needs enough money to cover one month’s rent, $1900. Let's bring Elena home.
