UPDATE

Hello, Family and Friends,

It is with a deep sense of sadness and regret that I inform you of Dwain/Abou's passing in Florida. On Sunday, June 9th, at 11:57 in the morning, our beloved Dwain transitioned peacefully in Hospice, leaving our hearts shattered into millions of pieces.

We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love, support, and condolences. Thank you.

Immense thanks also to everyone who has donated and shared the GoFundMe. Please help us grant Abou's final wish of being buried alongside his parents in Saint Lucia.

Dear Friends, Family, and Compassionate Souls,

Dwain Ferdinand, affectionately known as Abou, the past two and half years have been rife with medical and financial struggles.

Being diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and a myriad of other autoimmune diseases, Dwain’s journey has been marked by frequent hospitalizations, dialysis sessions, blood transfusions, and numerous surgeries. These challenges have not only depleted our savings but have also hindered Dwain's ability to work.

Following his most recent surgery on April 12, 2024, we held onto hope that Dwain's resilient spirit would carry him through to recovery and that he would finally be back on his feet doing the things that he loves – playing soccer, spending time with friends and family, and going back to work to pay his bills and provide for himself and his family.

But, a couple of days ago, June 2, the doctor delivered devastating news that no one wants to hear. “There’s nothing more we can do for you. We will be transferring you to Hospice.” I felt like my arms were broken, my heart stopped for a bit, my dreams, our dreams shattered.

Dwain is young. We are a young couple simply trying to make it in this world. And Hospice? Hospice! These words reverberate in my head still, sending chills down my spine every time.

Despite his strength and determination, sadly, Dwain's organs are failing, shutting down one after the other, one after the other, one after the other.

When Dwain was 33 years old, he lost his father. Three months after that, he lost his mother – the people he loved most. “I miss my dad,” he said a few hours after being admitted to Hospice. “He was a good man,” he continued, tears in his eyes. Today, at 50 years old, Dwain lies in Hospice, facing the final stages of his own journey. His wish – to be buried alongside his parents in Saint Lucia.

However, as medical bills continue to mount and financial struggles persist, fulfilling Dwain's wish on my own feels daunting and out of reach.

Friends and family, as Dwain continues to receive compassionate care in Hospice and bravely faces this chapter, with a heavy heart, I humbly reach out to you for assistance. Your contribution, no matter the size, will help alleviate the financial burden we are currently experiencing and bring us closer to granting Dwain's last wish when the time comes, which is to help us cover medical bills and grant his wish.

Abou has touched the lives of so many with his infectious laughter, sense of humor, strength, and kind-hearted nature. Whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser with your network, your support will help ease the financial burden we are experiencing during this difficult time.

Thank you for your generosity, love, and support as we honor Dwain/Abou's journey and strive to fulfill his final wish.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Sylviana Février Gordon
