Supporting Dartford and Gravesham NHS

Thank you for making it to my fundraising page. My name is Anjali and I’m here to share the tragic story that the Covid-19 pandemic brought upon my family’s and my life. For several the Covid-19 pandemic meant that we had to stay home, avoid meet ups with family and friends and bake a tonne of banana bread. However for many others the pandemic cost them the lives of their loved ones.

I lost my dad, Abnash Singh Taak during Covid-19 pandemic in November 2020. My dad was 72 years old but tremendously young and happy at heart. I recall the night he was admitted to hospital, I could only speak to him through FaceTime or text but even then saying a few words was extremely difficult for him and I just wanted him to rest and recover. I would speak to the doctors through him who had informed me that he wasn’t doing too well and showing signs of the virus, so he was placed on steroids and other medication as treatment. I delivered clothes and essentials to my dad but had to leave them at the front door as hospitals were not safe for the rest of the public. How ironic. My dad repeatedly told my mum that he was going to be okay and would come home soon, whereas to me he constantly showed a worried face and was asking me if he was going to be okay based on the doctors words. I nodded and hid my tears.

My dad passed away in the early hours of 23rdNovember 2020, and life hasn’t been and never will be the same again. I’ve had to take on several responsibilities since my dad passed, one of the biggest being becoming a grown up and not taking matters so lightly anymore. My dad trained me well as he brought me up and I wouldn’t want his training to go in vain. I will always be sad that my dad didn’t get to see me graduate from my degree or get married and have children, but I feel he’s with me in every step I take.

It’s never easy to try move on and live days without our lost family or friends, simply put the only thing that would numb the everlasting pain is to hear their voice or see them laughing and smiling once again. Although we cannot achieve the impossible, we can continue to support the warriors who have truly been at the front line fighting and risking their own lives to save others. The NHS health professionals, doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, porters, ward assistants and many others deserve the world but for now let’s continue to support them in fighting the battle against infection and disease.

To help achieve this goal my sisters Kiran and Poonam and I will be walking for 20km on May 31st 2021.
