Our mom unexpectedly passed on May 2nd, 2025 after a long, 3 week battle in the hospital. During this grueling 3 week battle, she fought so hard. She suffered from a heart attack, was in septic shock, had multiple abdominal surgeries related to a small bowel obstruction and a bowel perforation. This resulted in most of her small bowel being resected and her having an ostomy placed. Unfortunately, the ostomy failed and she required an additional resection and another ostomy surgery. We were informed our mother would require TPN (IV nutrition) to supplement her regular diet for the rest of her life. We were willing to help her navigate that and had hope she would recover. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Days later our mother had multiple acute strokes that were most likely triggered by a resistant fungal infection in her blood. She was unable to come off of the ventilator, and we were told she would require a tracheostomy, and would more than likely need to go to a long term facility since she would be vent dependent and full care due to the residual affects of the strokes.
In our mother’s best interest, we withdrew supportive care on May 2nd, 2025. As hard as it was to make that decision, we knew she would not have wanted to spend the rest of her life in a long term facility and have a poor quality of life. Our mother endured great suffering, but never stopped fighting. We admire her fight and strength and ask for help during this difficult time so we can honor her in all of the ways she deserves. Please consider donating to help us honor our precious mom. Any donation big or small is appreciated. Our mom was on a low income budget and unfortunately did not have life insurance. We are asking for monetary donations to help assist us with her cremation and the memorial service costs to honor our mother, Donna as she deserves.
